Choosing an email marketing platform often leads to analysis paralysis for professional services businesses and coaches. There are so many and it's just confusing trying to work out which one is best.
So I'm sharing my top email service providers (ESPs) for NZ service businesses and coaches. So you can narrow it down faster. You'll still need to make the final choice but it can be done in a day or two. Unless you're an enterprise level business. That's next level with sign-offs up to the executive level.
What to consider before choosing your ESP
Most professional services businesses start out with a free email service provider (ESP). I'm a fellow boostrapping small business (what kiwi startup isn't outside of the tech industry?). We love to DIY here in New Zealand.
There is a negative side to that. Picking the wrong platform means you have to move which is a hassle. Especially if you're not tech-savvy. I even find it a pain.
Instead check if you platform meets your current and future needs against these criteria:
Is it worth the effort? If it's hard to use or doesn't help you then don't bother. If you don't like writing or want to get help from someone who does then there are other marketing channels you could use. Don't start email marketing if you're going to just collect emails and send pitches or occasional emails. That doesn't create trust.

Platforms like Klaviyo and Shopify are great for ecommerce but you need something different for your service or coaching business.

Which is the easiest email marketing platform to learn?
It's really a personal choice. Mailchimp has been popular with my clients. It has great designs and they've updated their popups for that polished professional look. They make it easy for agencies and email consultants that are Mailchimp & Co members like me to onboard new clients.
I've noticed a lot of service businesses moving away from it in recent years. Mailerlite is the ESP many NZ small businesses have moved to. I use Mailerlite for my own emails. It has a free plan but when you are ready to move to the next level it can grow with you without a big investment.
There isn't a best email builder, it all comes down to what you find easiest to use and which email marketing platform has the features and integrations that you need.
