Hi I'm Tiffany, email marketing specialist for service businesses. One of the most frequent questions I get asked is - why email marketing? Sure usually in interviews or talking to new clients. But to answer that I need to give a little background.

It's a fun story so I'm sharing a little here but most importantly I think it highlights how I can help you. Because let's be honest. You're not interested so much in what and why email. You're interested in how I can help you right?

My journey hasn't been a straight line, but it's precisely that squiggly path that makes me the perfect fit to craft your email marketing strategies and automation sequences.

As an email marketing specialist with over 10 years of experience in marketing New Zealand businesses, I've dedicated my career to crafting email marketing strategies that not only drive results but also build lasting connections with your audience.

Becoming an email marketing expert has been shaped by my time in mostly small service-based businesses. My insatiable curiosity, introverted nature, love of writing and becoming a mother (a mum in marketing).

These experiences have instilled in me a deep connection to building relationships and helping small businesses fix the email marketing mistakes that are holding them back from leveraging email for business growth.

It all began with a curious and geeky mind

An all-round geek and proud I was set on a career in Science. Curious and analytical by nature, always asking why? I started my squiggly career in a Molecular Biology lab.My past career means I bring a systematic but experimental approach to your email marketing.

I picked up some unique analytical skills. But my creative side needed more. After travelling and a little soul searching on my O.E. I found marketing, a perfect career for a curious and creative mind.

My first role was working for a global organisation as a marketing assistant. They were a supplier of laboratory equipment and consumables (chemicals, filters, fridges etc.) to healthcare and scientific laboratories. My role covered print marketing, samples, product support, advertising…Like most of my roles it was broad. I loved the marketing side and every role since which involved digital marketing including email marketing.



A decade working in-house in New Zealand small businesses

I've worked with many small service-based businesses plus a couple of ecommerce and larger businesses. Most of my email marketing experience is with professional services and service based businesses. These include: Accountants, Business Advisors, Dietitians, Recording Studios, and Mentoring Services. I’ve also worked with clients in marketing agencies, accounting, business advisory, business or health coaching.

Working across multiple service industries has given me unique insight into the customer journey, desire and pain points.



Getting qualified in digital marketing and lifelong learning

Despite years of experience I found it hard to progress once I had children. Many roles that fit my skillset required a marketing degree. So I decided to get a tertiary level digital marketing diploma at the Digital Marketing Institute.

I enjoy learning and this added a few areas to my digital marketing expertise like paid advertising. That can be very handy when you’re trying to grow an email list and a brand.

My focus on my values of curiosity and lifelong learning means I’m always learning through continuous professional development, data analysis and asking why? In between looking after my kids, entertaining, and running a small business you can find me reading marketing blogs, reading marketing books and learning more about email marketing. Like I’ve said I’m a hard core email geek.

That curiosity helps me come up with innovative, unique and personalized emails that have your subscribers knocking on your inbox.



We’re people with families not machines or targets

My value of people and family first shows up in my passionate belief in work-life balance, putting people-first and customer-centric marketing.

You’re a person as well as a business owner. That means I know that we have different strengths, weaknesses and interests. I love data, you may not. I could spend hours writing emails. You may prefer spending hours at meetings. I’m not going to call you out of hours. In fact I’m not a fan of calls at all. Yes, I’m an elder millennial so I use email and if it’s urgent text. I also find I miss things on calls that I don’t on emails. That and my kids have a sixth sense for when I’m on a call. Which leads into the family first part…

I have young kids so I’m not always available. In the evenings I’m working on my marketing, feeding the kids, reading or watching the latest season of my favourite sci fi or fantasy series on Netflix.

I also believe your customers want value. Not to be a number. As an email strategist I respect their privacy, while still giving you what I can from what’s available in your email marketing data. I don’t spam. Ever. Which means I don’t upload emails to Mailchimp or your email marketing platform. You shouldn’t need to add people that way if you’re using the usual and most effective list building techniques. This helps to keep your account safe and your email subscribers from hitting ‘did not sign up’. Because I don’t want you to lose access to those people who want to hear from you.

We’re people with hopes and dreams, strengths and weaknesses, and loved ones. AI and other machines can help us but they also come with limitations. At least currently, it’s a useful tool but not a replacement. Like that lack of connection. It’s hard to build authority and trust with AI content. People buy from people. That’s a topic for another blog.



Passionate email marketing specialist for service businesses

In case you hadn’t noticed I’m super passionate about email marketing. I’ve seen the impact it’s had for businesses and I’ve seen how not using it, or doing it poorly has cost small businesses. I want more for you. I want more for New Zealanders (and all subscribers). It is the missing link for all those small business owners that are shaking their hips on social media, pointing, lip syncing and creating elaborate videos just to get in front of people. Maybe.

Don’t get me wrong. Social media and other marketing channels that bring attention to your business are essential to successful email marketing. You need someone to email to. But I’ve seen so many creators and business owners burn out and become overwhelmed by how much more it takes to be seen in this attention economy.
